Goulet Farm (2025)
South Hero Land Trust worked with the Goulet and Swanson families, alongside our partners at Vermont Land Trust, to conserve 195 acres of critical farmland in the Keeler Bay Watershed. This land, which is home base for the beloved Goulet Farm, was conserved in 2025 thanks to the generosity of our community.
To close the project, SHLT and Vermont Land Trust worked together to secure $918,000 in federal and state grants. The landowners also helped by lowering the price by $270,000 through what’s known as a “bargain sale.” This left a gap of $350,000, at which point the community stepped up in a huge way - together we were able to raise just enough to close the project and protect this land forever!
Building on the work of his parents (Guy Sr. and Brenda) and grandparents, Guy, Lori, and Brad have built a thriving farm business, growing high quality hay for the horse market and a vibrant market garden to provide fresh vegetables and fruits for a busy farmstand in Keeler Bay. The stand grew out of a shared dream to feed their community, and has grown exponentially since opening in 2015. As Guy says, “we’ve met some real good people.” Lori continues, speaking of the relationships they’ve built, and how important it is to her to look out for folks who might be struggling, and make sure they go home with enough to fill their bellies. “It feels good to be able to help,” she says.
With the conservation of this land, together we ensured the Goulets are able to continue caring for the land, supporting the local economy, and feeding our community long into the future.
