The Honorable Harvest - A Sustainable Foraging Walk

  • Round Pond State Park 27 E Shore Rd South Hero, VT, 05486 United States (map)

Join South Hero Land Trust and UVM student Clare Kelly for an edible foraging walk at Round Pond State Park! Clare has been working with SHLT to prepare a guide to ethical foraging for South Hero, focusing on the lesser-known species and using the framework of the “honorable harvest” as popularized recently by Robin-Wall Kimmerer , as a way to help encourage sustainable ethics so that future generations can enjoy the wonders of foraging.

Expect to learn plant ID skills, along with practical guidelines for ethical foraging. This event will also be hands-on, with multiple opportunities to sample delicious edible plants!

Site Information: Round Pond is muddy this time of year, so bring your mud boots and clothes you don’t mind getting wet/dirty. The trail is about 1 mile round-trip, with gentle topography for most of the distance, and two steep sections near the end as you approach the shore (if we get that far). The trail surface is mostly packed dirt, with a few sections of puncheon-style boardwalks.

RSVP not neccesary, but if you have questions about the event please don’t hesitate to reach out to nora@shlt.org.
