Volunteer Land Stewards

Do you have a favorite special spot in South Hero? Do you want to become more involved with SHLT and the community? Become a Land Steward!

Land Stewards are dedicated community members who help SHLT take care of our trails, gardens, and open spaces. There are many different types of projects, from surveying a trail for downed trees or other issues, to mowing trails, removing invasive species, monitoring for EAB-resistant ash, and more! Land Stewards will receive ongoing support and training by SHLT staff, as well as special opportunities like volunteer appreciation events and special swag.

To become a Land Steward, we ask you attend an orientation, typically held in the spring. From there, you can either:

  • adopt a specific site. We’ll meet with you there to go over what you’ll be doing and any tools or techniques you’ll need.

  • or commit to coming to at least 4 SHLT volunteer work parties.
