Volunteer Land Stewards Training + Work Party 2026

  • Roy Marsh Trailhead 2 Station Road South Hero, VT, 05486 United States (map)

Do you have a particular outdoor space in South Hero that you love? Maybe it’s Round Pond State Park, or Tracy Woods, the Folsom Learning Garden, or the Roy Marsh Trail. You may not know this, but community members like you play key roles in keeping these places open, safe, and looking beautiful for all of us to enjoy.

If this sounds appealing, on Thursday June 18th at 4:00 pm come to our volunteer work party and learn more about South Hero Land Trust’s Volunteer Land Stewards program! Community members can “adopt” local trails, natural areas, and community gardens, either solo or as part of a team, to help us steward these special sites. Once trained, you’re able to care for these spaces on your own schedule.

Join us for an orientation to the program including hands on training on basic skills like trail maintenance, invasive species removal, plant identification, and an opportunity to sign up as a land steward! Already a Volunteer Land Steward? We’d love for you to join still and keep the learning process going, plus connect with new volunteers!

Please let us know you’re coming by using this RSVP Form

Light food and beverages will be provided. And you’re invited to come to Two Heroes with us after!

Meeting site information: We’ll be meeting at the Roy Marsh trailhead on Station Rd before walking to our new Islandacres trail that we’re breaking ground on this season.

More information about the Volunteer Land Stewards program:

To become a Volunteer Land Steward, you commit to volunteering with us throughout the season. Most often, Land Stewards are assigned to a trail or garden, and they visit throughout the year to volunteer on their own schedule. They also can commit to regularly attending our volunteer work parties throughout the season. There are many different types of projects, from as simple as surveying the trail and notifying SHLT staff of any downed trees or other issues, to mowing trails, removing invasive species, maintaining our gardens, monitoring for EAB-resistant ash, and more!

Land Stewards will receive ongoing support and training by SHLT staff, as well as special opportunities like volunteer appreciation events and special swag! Come to the event to learn more!
