Join us on Wednesday, July 29th from 9am-11am along the path of the Islandacres Trail for a volunteer work party. We will be pulling invasive plant species like honeysuckle and buckthorn, and restoring the area in preparation for the trail opening later this year.
The Islandacres Trail is SHLT's newest public access trail, linking South Street with Tracy Road. Running along the Islandacres Farm's fields and the borders of the Roy Marsh, this 1.2 mile trail is being built in 2026 and will include accessibility features, interpretive signage, and beautiful views of the marsh.
The goal of the day is to restore the wetland area by pulling out invasive honeysuckle and using “critical period cutting” technique to remove buckthorn. This new removal technique involves cutting back the canopy of a buckthorn to reduce its nutrient intake and ability to regrow.
All are welcome, but please leave pets at home. We will meet at 9 at the parking lot for the Roy Marsh Natural Area and walk over together to the restoration area.
Please Bring: Water bottle, gloves (we’ll have extra), and clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
